Creature friendly reccomendations
During our first campaign, we also learnt about the many people and organisations that are working with similar passions and goals in animal welfare. It is unfortunate that New Zealand has need of so many and that they are all so busy. But they are achieving great things and we are in awe of their work. You can find out more about their causes and how to help below:

Helping you help animals (HuHa) is an extension of the Pakuratahi Farm Animal Sanctuary. Situated on the outskirts of Wellington the sanctuary takes in all kinds of injured and neglected animals that need homes and care. On their website HuHa, you can catch up with their stories and learn about the animals they help, and see how you can help too.

Opportunity for animals is a project of the Animal Protection Society, using our tradition of opportunity shopping as fundraising for animals in need. They are working hard to collect funds to establish an animal sanctuary in the Wellington region in the very near future. Don't forget them if you are cleaning out your cupboards, and if you want to experience the true joy of shopping and giving at the same time, check out their shops:
90 Riddiford Street, Newtown, Wellington. Phone 04-389 3891
4 Bay Road, Kilbirnie, Wellington. Phone 04-387 7120

The Wellington SPCA does an amazing job helping abused and abandoned animals in the Wellington region. Their rescue unit (ARU) is a unique resource, committed to helping animals out of tight situations.

SAFE (Save the Animals From Exploitation) is an extraodinary New Zealand organisation with an international reputation for achieving great things on the animal welfare front. They have been instrumental in changing many of New Zealand's traditional farming practices and gaining increased recognition for the rights of animals.

PiCAS International (Pigeon Control Advisory Service International)is the global authority on non-lethal population control for birds. Their methods have been very successful in controlling pigeon populations in large European cities like London and Paris. They work hard within the UK to educate councils on the long-term costs of culling and how to control populations successfully and sustainably without culling, non-lethally. They have offered their consultation and custom made solutions to the Wellington City Council on an expenses only basis, which the council has thus far refused.

If you are really interested in controlling pigeons (we're not just looking at you, councillors)then you would be wise to check out this site. This site is a massive resource and education tool on methods and materials to control pigeon populations successfully without culling them.
